Paul sveum
factilities manager & field instructor
Paul brings over 20 years of outdoor education, wilderness living/bushcraft and guiding experience to the team. He will be working as a field instructor helping area middle and high school students learn a little bit about nature and a lot about themselves and will be spending the rest of his time working as an all-around handyman on our campus in Bremen. Paul is a registered Master Maine Guide and a fly fishing guide who also works as a production fly tyer in the winter. Paul has led numerous extended backcountry expeditions including 3+ week treks through the Boundary Waters of Minnesota and Yellowstone National Park in the winter and most recently a 27-day paddle from the headwaters of the Aroostook River, following a traditional canoe route, to the ocean in Lubec. He has always believed that kids (and adults) need to foster and nurture a first-hand relationship with Nature that transcends navel-gazing philosophy and instead focuses on getting a little dirt under our fingernails. To Paul, that means hunting, fishing, foraging, harvesting and building with the resources around us in order to create a sustainable and nourishing life, both physically and emotionally. This belief is primarily the result of being raised as a Gen-X kid who had little to do indoors and was told to go play outside and come back at dinner. Thanks, Mom and Dad! What a blessing it was! Paul currently lives in Pittston with his wife and two wild daughters who keep the belief that he knows how to parent just slightly out of reach.
