RAVEN WEITZENHOFFER

INSTRUCTOR

Despite growing up in the bustling city of Houston, Texas, Raven was immersed in the outdoors from the minute she could walk. Her mom was an avid camper and hiker, and her love for the outdoors quickly became an integral part of Raven as well. She was particularly interested in the world of invertebrates, and spent her summer days by the pool rescuing beetles from the pool skimmers. She went to Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, where Raven initially decided to major in environmental policy. She quickly realized policy was not the right fit, and switched to environmental biology. Raven absolutely loved biology, but a work study position at a local outdoor education facility in the hill country of Texas helped her realize a passion for environmental education. She remained in the world of education ever since. After graduating, she spent some time working at a biological research station in the Mojave desert before moving to the eastern shore of Virginia where she worked at an educational field station along the coast. Raven fell in love with Maine while visiting for the first time on a road trip up to Acadia, and knew she had to live here. Raven immediately started my search and found Hearty Roots, and the rest is history! Some of her current main hobbies include bird watching, camping, and hiking. She’s hoping to add some winter sports to the list after experiencing her first real winter!
