Morgan hayman
field instructor
Morgan joins Hearty Roots as a field instructor following an elaborate journey of outdoor, ocean based education and research roles.
She graduated from Vassar College with a degree in Environmental Studies & Geography, then moved to Portland to teach open ocean sailing to high school students. There, she saw the power of non-traditional, outdoor education first hand (and a lot of whales!). She continued teaching and sailing, crossing the Pacific from San Diego, her hometown, to the islands of Hawaii, Tahiti and Fiji, up and down the eastern seaboard and to the Caribbean islands. After earning her captains license, she moved on to work as a research assistant, oyster farmer and tour boat captain, until she began to miss the transformative power of outdoor classrooms.
Morgan is passionate about reflection, observation and a good challenge. At Hearty Roots, she is excited to help students build skills that help them feel confident and safe in the outdoors, and inspire them to pursue their own adventures!
