JACKSON MILLER
LEAD INSTRUCTOr
JACKSON@HEARTYROOTS.ORG
After moving to Maine in the summer of 2026, he brought with him a passion for education, the outdoors, and helping young people thrive. Originally from Kensington, Maryland—just outside Washington, D.C.—Jackson earned his Bachelor's degree in Family Science from the University of Maryland before returning to his former middle school as a Special Education Teacher and Math Specialist.
Over four years in the classroom, Jackson was a case manager for more than 100 seventh-grade students with IEPs while partnering closely with their families to help them navigate the special education process. His approach is rooted in patience, collaboration, and the belief that every child learns best when they feel supported, capable, and seen.
Jackson's experience working with children stretches back to his college years and beyond. He has served as a Best Buddies Club president, preschool assistant, camp counselor, outdoor education facilitator, and respite service provider for children with autism in Maryland. Each role has reinforced his passion for creating engaging, inclusive environments where kids can build confidence, curiosity, and meaningful connections.
Jackson holds a Maryland certification in Generic Special Education (Grades 1–8) and is currently working toward earning his Maine certification. At Hearty Roots, he's excited to continue sharing his love of experiential, hands-on learning through accessible, child-centered programs that inspire curiosity, creativity, and growth. His appreciation for the natural world—and the lessons it offers—makes Hearty Roots a perfect fit.
When he's not at the office, in a school, or exploring the Hearty Roots campus, you'll likely find Jackson tending to one of his many bonsai trees, catching up with friends back home over video games, or hiking Maine's rugged trails with his partner, Kate.
